Saints ‘Pirate’ trio make the final!

Wet and tired and (not quite) victorious

Gill writes:

“On Saturday 29 August  Eira, Gill and Mary formed a triples team and entered
the charity triples tournament held annually at The Wheatsheaf, Tattingstone.

This year the proceeds were for the Lighthouse charity (which helps those who have suffered domestic abuse) and the theme was ‘Pirates and Sailors’ Many of the entrants dressed up as pirates, including Eira and Mary who both looked extremely authentic, especially Eira who managed to play the entire tournament with a felt parrot sewn to her shoulder!

After receiving a bye for the first match the team from Eye Saints
managed to get through to the final for the Plate, which they sadly lost 8-13 after a tight match. Not a bad achievement nevertheless.

In the  afternoon the weather worsened and the rain deluged down, soaking most players.  The ladies from Eye Saints managed to avoid this with another bye and then the drawing of the raffle.  We felt extremely sorry for those who were dripping wet, but rather smug to be dry!

The whole event raised more than £400 for the charity so a really worthwhile day.”
